Clarke Quay

Entertainment hub in historic district

The Project

Creative adaption and careful restoration of five abandoned warehouses and shophouses has resulted in this delightful retail and entertainment hub along Singapore’s riverfront. Activities take place under a huge, umbrella-like canopy structure that has given the place a special identity, making outdoor dining and open-air shopping enjoyable.

The Challenge

This was one of the largest conservation project in Singapore. The heritage buildings were sensitively restored yet re-adapted for new uses. The network of streets was re-organised to improve connectivity. Trees, fountains and canopies also helped to keep the ambience cool.
